Caramel Cake

This is a caramel cake with caramel filling for an anniversary.

Themed a teddy couple, adorable and chic.

Making the cake

The theme requested was simple and elegant. Making the gumpaste teddies were fun, rolling the flowers were a little tedious. Had to make around 60 roses for this tiny cake. One thing I learned while making it was that getting a nice red colour is indeed pretty hard and requires lots and lots of coloring. Luckily the colors didn’t stain too bad if you wash it off immediately.

I made some caramel to fill the cake, and white buttercream frosting to frost it. Since the fondant layer is white, I needed a white base so that the caramel color of the cake won’t show through. Again, I was quite surprised that frosting a cake was a piece of cake!

  1. I love caramel flavor and making it is a lot of fun too. I had a ball making these homemade caramel apples by Martha Stewart. Perfect for Halloween!
